Foal & Youngstock Handling & Training For an easy progression into a working life, horses that have been well handled and have a good attitude towards humans have a distinct advantage. We use our holistic horsemanship experience at Valley Fields Stud to begin training early on to establish a good horse-human relationship.

Holistic & Veterinary Care Whilst in our care we can look at your animals and treat any mental anxiety, physical tension or nutritional shortcomings with oils, massage and selected fresh/dried herbs and homeopathy. We have found that these are particularly beneficial to mares who may be going through hormonal changes and may need a “pick up” from the rigours of giving birth. Foals can be assessed for early signs of limb deviation by our vet and given quality feed to promote steady, healthy growth. At our stud in Hertfordshire we can accommodate horses whether it be for race-training, broodmares, weaning or convalescence livery or breaking under saddle. Please contact us to discuss any particular requirements you may have. |

With join-up and groundwork skills we can get the youngsters to focus on new challenges without fear. Even a newly weaned foal can be taught to walk over poles or to load into a trailer without a battle.
We can get your yearlings used to a bridle and bit, ready for the show ring or auction and improve their in-hand leading technique to show them off to full advantage in the ring. If your youngster has a problem with lifting legs for the farrier or coping with a rug with leg straps, we can work on them to desensitise their fears. |

Foal Weaning We understand just how important it is to make weaning as stress free as possible for both the mare and foal to avoid behavioural issues later on.
We have specially fenced paddocks with post + rail and barrier screen to limit the occurrence of accidents as foals can often be lively and adventurous!
We are able to cater for either your mare or her foal when the need for separation arises and their feeling of loss will be limited by being given a suitable field companion or put into a mixed group of our established gentle mares or with other foals and “nannys”.
Whether it is just for a month to break the maternal ties or for summer turnout and further training, please contact us to talk over your requirements.
